The grounds of the listed Chelmsford Club (formerly Laurel Grove) include a street-facing Gatehouse and separate Coach House, both of which have been converted into one-bedroom dwellings. Further new apartments have been created using parts of the main house, as well as a new-build dwelling tucked into the back of the site.

Special attention was needed for these designs to ensure that comfortable living spaces could be provided within compact areas. Minimal interventions were made to the outbuildings to avoid imposing on the site, and to preserve the heritage architectural features.
